We extend an invitation to artists and litterateurs to be part of a residency in which we will host them for a period of time on Naxos and offer them the use of the space and the items therein as much as is feasible for the completion of their projects.
Ideas for group or solo projects could include research, writing, art production, preparing works for a gallery, recording music, preparing and performing a theatre and/or dance production, among others.
If you are interested in pursuing a residency at Cycladia, we would be very interested in discussing your proposal.
Dauda Conteh
The musician and dancer from Sierra Leone, West Africa was hosted in Cycladia during three consecutive visits to Naxos in the summer and fall of 2020. Although the total time was short, the result was rich: 3 concerts, 2 dance seminars, 2 cycles of recording sessions and of course a lot of unfinished material waiting for the next visit.
Katerina Stoikou
The painter Katerina Stoikou was hosted at Cycladia within her exhibition Summer, Mythical Homeland and the The Art of Seeing, a two-week long seminar that took place in July of 2019. Her presence at Cycladia was not erased after she left: Katerina became the impetus for improvement of every facet of Cycladia she came into contact with.
Artemis Papadima
The artist and painter, Artemis Papadima, passed the biggest part of August 2018 at Cycladia, with the goal of bringing her installation Genesis to the primordial landscape of Naxos. The complex exterior of the building of Cycladia inspired her, and she started her project: a feat of filling 35 balls with 2,450 litres of water under the cycladic august sun. The end result: the installation Genesis 2018.
Apostolos Chasiotis
The artist Apostolis Hasiotis visited Cycladia three times for about a week at a time. In the beginning, he was part of an exhibition The History of Things with sculptures made entirely out of recycled material and a studio for the creation of a sculpture made from items that were picked from the unwanted bits of the island. However the early result was so interesting, that he adopted the work and after many hours of work over his short stays, the sculpture arrived at its final form as Tragaias Olive Tree which is now on permanent display at Cycladia.
